Promoting a scientific and humane approach when working with animals, Lanndis adheres to the Humane Hierarchy. She seeks to address any and all factors that may or may not be setting her trainee up for success. Positive reinforcement is always the most desirable training modality, and punishment is only considered as a last resort. This maximizes the safety and wellbeing of her clients and their pets.

Prevention is always a more enjoyable approach than reaction-based intervention - for both people and their animals. This is why this program strives to implement proactive measures that set the animal up for success by giving them lots of reinforcement for more desirable behaviours.

We want dogs who are excited to take on the world and learn new things. But we also need dogs to remain relaxed in various settings to prevent stress and frustration (from both human and dog!) a cornerstone of this program is giving dogs plenty of opportunities to practice (and be rewarded) for calm behaviour in many settings.

Healthy separation begins with comfort in the crate (pens also work!) From here, we look to add solo-play activities that build confidence and random periods of separation from people. Learning to be relaxed when confined and unattended, and able to find enjoyment and reinforcement in their environment, will pay countless doggy dividends.

It is Lanndis’ belief that the goal of good dog training ought to be to make the dog as independent as possible, so that they can learn to make the best choices to meet their own needs, as well as ours. using the least intrusive, minimally aversive methods gives the dog the space to choose the right decision more freely - for us as handlers, that means no more micromanaging!
